From early involvement in various sports to finding martial arts in childhood and fitness in my teens, I have harbored and honed captivation with the human movement both as an international competitor and then a coach for nearly two decades. Last few years, my sole focus has been helping others do the same in a systemic and sustainable fashion.
Being raised in a dysfunctional family, I felt like I never belonged anywhere. Not at home, not at school, not even in my native country or continent; essentially I was always an outsider never a member. This need to belong defined me, to the point that I ignored my inner voice and set off on a path I never could have fathomed. From living between two continents to striving to be fluent in six languages, I, like so many others, bought into the common social belief that overcompensating in one area makes up for all others. Professionally, this drove me to climb the corporate ladder until I became the youngest vice president of a prestigious insurance company. When that left me weary and disenchanted, I dived into the fast turn world of startups to become the head of sales for an up and coming Silicon Valley company. From an outside perspective, I made it. I was a success, which translated to earning lots of money and burning it all up on self-gratification pursuits and ego boosting. But with every external achievement, my feelings of disconnection only magnified. Finally, I knew I had to make a radical change. So I left it all behind at age 35 to pursue my lifelong passion as a full-time professional grappler and competitor. I followed the mold, but then I broke it. I won and I lost -- a lot! I went from peaks of elation to valleys of depression in search of my voice and my identity. I found both. And I finally belong and live life on my terms.
It is this journey I lay in front of you, my dear reader -- a blog summation of countless thoughts, journal entries, voice notes, sleepless nights and conversations with my students and friends. Its a raw, unadulterated view of a man's life in pursuit of his identity while looking back on the lessons and approaches garnered across various disciplines. At the very least, I hope to inspire you to begin your very own journey of finding the best you.
Great skill, in its many forms, of amazing individuals, has captivated and marked my life in many ways. Physically, my efforts were rooted in various sports until I found martial arts at age 7 and fitness in my teens. Personally, it inspired frequent world-wide travel, active life on two continents and fluency in six languages. Professionally, it drove me progressively upward post-University to one of the youngest Vice Presidents of a 116-year-old legacy company to stints as Head of Sales of a Silicon Valley start-up persuing Series C. I have harbored and honed my captivation with skill in various capacities as a competitor and then a coach for nearly two decades but especially competing and training full-time post-retirement at age 35. I have since systematized lessons and approaches across various disciplines and look forward to helping you achieve your fitness and grappling goals. At the very least, I hope to inspire you to begin your very own journey of finding the best you.
In pursuit of Excellence
I was fascinated with prowess and excellence in all human endeavors since I was a child. This led from worldwide travel to fluency in six languages. From being one of the youngest Vice Presidents of a 116-year-old legacy company to stints in a start-up world of Silicon Valley. Only to retire at 35 and spend the following two years competing and training full time as a professional grappler. I have since systematized lessons and approaches across various disciplines and look forward to helping you achieve your fitness and grappling goals.
My approach to training you is routed in the synergy between your needs and my unique experience. Your individually customized program will reflect that synergy and vary from more traditional strength and conditioning to the one inspired by other arts, in which I am proficient. For your convenience and informed choice, some different approaches are below. If any of them resonate, or if you have questions, I look forward to assisting you in your fitness journey.
Generally, I am available for short-or long-term private and semi-private sessions along with workshops and seminars, but I am open to discussing any other wishes you may have.
